10 Years of Irundo Apartments

It has already been 10 years since Tomislav Zovko and Igor Kordic, the owners of Irundo Holiday Apartment Rentals, spotted an opportunity for a good business and founded a company for short-term rental of apartments and properties in leading tourist destinations in Croatia. Igor Kordic and Tomislav Zovko recognized as early as 2011 that tourism in Croatia was developing rapidly and that demand for accommodation was growing. Motivated by this, they quickly agreed and launched the pilot project ZigZag Apartments, whose goal was to provide top-tier accommodation in the very center of Zagreb and take the so-called roommate-free experience to an entirely new level, to compete with some of the world's leading rental providers. Over the following two years, with growing demand, the pilot project grew into a real startup, and as the portfolio expanded in Zagreb, they quickly realized the model was applicable to other major cities — and so ZigZag Dubrovnik was born in our strongest tourist destination.

In 2014, the first integrated hotel in Croatia was also opened, whose categorization confirmed the high standard of business organization and guest service. Shortly after, operations expanded beyond Croatia — ZigZag Vienna was created, and by the end of that year, ZigZag Belgrade. As business developed on a regional level, the company underwent a rebranding and changed its recognizable ZigZag name to Irundo Holiday Apartment Rentals — the Latin variant of the swallow (lat. Hirundo), a name that symbolizes the adventurous spirit of a person who, like a migratory bird, always returns to their nest.

From the very beginning until today, the number of apartments has continuously grown, and Tomislav and Igor have ensured that Irundo always keeps pace with trends. To offer additional value and the best possible service to both guests and employees, they gradually opened reception desks at all locations, digitized business operations, and implemented new processes using digital tools.

The focus has always been on quality and efficiency, never solely on a large number of apartments. This was recognized by visitors and the broader public, and so in 2015, with the integrated hotel in Zagreb, they won first place among hotels on TripAdvisor in Zagreb.

Today, Irundo has over 100 apartments located in leading tourist destinations such as Rovinj, Dubrovnik, Split, and Zagreb.

Igor and Tomislav recall the early days with smiles and pride and are grateful for all the knowledge they have gained through years of work. They have built their experience and deep understanding of guest desires into the foundations of Irundo. Despite a significant drop in business during the previous and most challenging year to date, they have once again managed to adapt to all demands and are now confidently welcoming a new season and new guests. For them, the saying truly holds: it is not the strongest who survive, but those most adaptable to change!
